Lever 3: test the audience like another creative
Short section, but this is the reminder everyone forgets:
The same email sent to two qualified segments can behave like two different campaigns.
We don't pick one list at the start and leave it alone. We test audience variables one at a time, with the same control logic as the copy tests in the last section.
For Fyxer, Gmail users converted at twice the rate of any other inbox provider, so we shifted more volume toward Gmail. Your best split might show up in company size, industry, job title, geography, or business model.
I treat the segment as part of the campaign definition so it actually appears in our Outfound analytics.
Audience variables worth isolating
| Variable | Keep constant | Decision metric |
|---|---|---|
| Inbox provider | Offer, creative, role, industry | Emails per signup or meeting |
| Company size | Offer, creative, role, industry | Emails per customer and revenue |
| Industry | Offer, creative, role, size | Emails per qualified outcome |
| Job title | Offer, creative, company profile | Meeting quality and customer rate |
| Existing intent signal | Offer, creative, company profile | Lift against the full-market control |
